02 July 2024 – The second National Steering Committee (NSC) meeting for the Management and Conservation of Blue Carbon Ecosystems (MACBLUE) project was held at The Melanesian Hotel in Port Vila, Vanuatu earlier this month. The meeting was attended by the Vanuatu Steering Committee members and the MACBLUE project team from the Pacific Community (SPC), Secretariat of the Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and GIZ.

May 24 2024 - The Pacific Mangrove Change Detection maps, a new initiative in environmental monitoring and data analysis, are providing crucial insights into the state of mangrove ecosystems across the Pacific region.

4 April 2024 - More than thirty youth volunteers of the World Wildlife for Nature (WWF) Pacific participated in a seagrass restoration training program last week Friday.

7 February 2024 - Vanuatu took a significant stride towards environmental conservation and sustainable management with the convening of the first National Steering Committee (NSC) meeting for the MACBLUE project.

5 December 2024 - Waste management and natural resource management are key priorities in the conservation and management of blue carbon ecosystems. These were shared by the women of the four coastal villages in Dawasamu - Driti, Nataleira, Nasinu and Silana village during a capacity-building workshop yesterday.

21 November, 2023 - World Fisheries Day is celebrated annually on November 21.

The annual event recognises the importance of our fisheries whether it’s coastal or offshore.

Additionally, it is a call for restoration of some of our degraded ecosystems that support important fisheries. One of which is seagrass.

14 August, 2023 - A week-long regional workshop on Land Cover Mapping for Estimating Carbon Emissions ended last Friday with renewed focus on the land cover mapping component of the emissions estimation process.

7 August, 2023 - Seagrass is important for a lot of things that happens in the water as well as mangroves. If there is no seagrass, there would be no Dugong and Turtles.

26 July, 2023 - All around the world, July 26 is commemorated as the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem.

In 2015, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) during its General Conference proclaimed the day, otherwise known as the World Mangrove Day, which was commemorated in 2016.

The selected candidate will be supporting the MACBLUE project in advising the PNG government and national stakeholder on strategies of the protection, management, use and rehabilitation of mangrove and seagrass ecosystems in coordination with the implementing partners.

6 July, 2023 - An inception meeting on the Management and Conservation of Blue Carbon Ecosystems (MACBLUE) project took place yesterday with Vanuatu government and civil society representatives at the Melanesian Hotel in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

7 July, 2023 - A pilot seagrass restoration project was undertaken earlier this week in the village of Nataleira in the Dawasamu district.

3 March, 2023 - Papua New Guinea is home to the highest number of species and total cover of mangroves and seagrasses within the Pacific Island countries.  The Government of Papua New Guinea recognizes the importance of its blue carbon ecosystems for local communities and for supporting and conserving its rich biodiversity on land and at sea.

23 June 2023 - Seagrasses are valuable marine flowering plants that exclusively grow in intertidal and shallow subtidal waters of sheltered near-shore environments.

9 June, 2023 - Members of the Pacific Ocean Alliance (POA) gathered this morning for a mangrove seedling potting at the Lami Fisheries Station.
