Project implementation to commence soon in Vanuatu

6 July, 2023 - An inception meeting on the Management and Conservation of Blue Carbon Ecosystems (MACBLUE) project took place yesterday with Vanuatu government and civil society representatives at the Melanesian Hotel in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

The workshop was aimed at assessing current policies on management of mangrove and seagrass ecosystems, tailoring the project to meet national and international reporting, identify representative mangrove and seagrass sites and determine potential priority sites and specific needs for project activities.

The results of the workshop will feed into the implementation plan of the project going forward.

The MACBLUE project aims to strengthen coastal biodiversity conservation and management through protection and rehabilitation incentives for coastal carbon sinks in Pacific Island countries. It will be implemented in four countries: Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Fiji.
