Regional Workshop Enhances Focus on Land Cover Mapping
14 August, 2023 - A week-long regional workshop on Land Cover Mapping for Estimating Carbon Emissions ended last Friday with renewed focus on the land cover mapping component of the emissions estimation process.
In partnership with Silva Carbon, the workshop was aimed at presenting an open-source algorithm to map the six Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) land use categories over time and training on Google Earth Engine and SEPAL.
Held at the Heritage Park Hotel in the Solomon Islands, the workshop also explored how to divide the IPCC forest land class into subcategories such as mangroves and integrating the land cover mapping process into the broader objective of estimating national carbon emissions.
