MACBLUE aims at strengthening institutional and individual capacity to manage and conserve biodiversity in blue carbon ecosystems. Through the implementation of protection and rehabilitation incentives for coastal carbon sinks, MACBLUE supports sustainable economies and livelihoods of Pacific Island Countries.

The project is commissioned by BMUV to GIZ as part of IKI, jointly implemented by SPREP, SPC and GIZ from 2019 to 2025.

Th MACBLUE Project implements its activities with financial support from the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and the International Climate Initiative (IKI).

Implementing partners

The MACBLUE project is jointly implemented by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit GIZ GmbH in close cooperation with their four partner governments Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands.
